Southwark Pale Ale

A solid competitor to the better known Pale Ales.

David Downie, Beer Reviewer, 2000

Southwark's Pale Ale was the third Southwark beer the AustralianBeers.com tasting panel was able to sample when exploring the Aladdin's cave opened with the launch of its Wheat Beer and seconded with the belated discovery of their Premium Lager

The Pale Ale market is not one of Australia's largest. Us Aussies tend these days to go for the standard VB style lager.  However, this was not always the case and pale ales were very much popularly consumed in our early drinking days of the 19th century. Cascade was one of the popular beers of that time, as it is today, and Coopers Pale Ale is also one of the most well known survivers.

Like Coopers, Southwark's Pale Ale is cloudy in appearance. It is packaged 'on the yeast' to add a yeasty finish to that classic malty taste.  A great alternative to the more popular national Australian Pale Ales, and a solid competitor.  We will certainly take the time to remind ourselves of our review every time we travel to South Australia.

An excellent accompaniment to meat dishes such as beef, lamb and mutton.
