Bluebottle beer

What beer to you drink with fish?

Australians are becoming more sophisticated at matching beer with food. For example, one of the great food and alcohol combinations is stout with chocolate cake, or a freshly baked brownie. Less known is the way, say, a delicious Red Oak Bock will pair with beautifully cooked red meat.

The boys at Fusion Brewing have taken this one step further and attempted to design a beer that is intended to be drunk with fish.

Bluebottle beer, as it is known, presents as slightly cloudy with a light gold colouring. It is lightly carbonated, with no head to speak of. Citrus notes are apparent on first taste which, combined with its easy drinking, slightly hoppy character, is reminiscent of Corona with the lemon already inserted.

An inoffensive beer that will hopefully get people thinking about beer and food combinations. Try it with fish and chips this weekend.

Something to compare with James Squire Pilsner, which is a classic companion to seafood.
