Southwark Stout

A good stout always goes down well, and Southwark does not disappoint

David Downie, Beer Reviewer, 2000

A good stout always goes down well. Southwark's Old Stout goes down excellently.  Southwark worked hard during the 50s to develop what they consider the perfect Stout recipe, and we are pleased to report it is still as flavoursome in the new century as it was in the old.

Kicking in at an amazing 7.4% alcohol, Southwark's Old Stout is technically almost port like in composition.  However, it is as smooth as any stout we have consumed, and the extra alcohol has obviously given Southwark more of an opportunity to work on subtleties of flavour.  A very solid performer indeed and strongly recommended by our reviewing team for those drinkers interested in a worthy stout.  One to watch over a work lunch however!

As with most dark beers, we recommend you complement it with beef stroganoff, rich meat dishes and pot roasts.  Also well suited to smoked foods and dry fruit platters.
